Spotify pre-saves: are they actually worth it?

October 15, 2025 · 6 min read

Pre-saves get a lot of airtime as the make-or-break of an indie release. The truth is messier — they help, sometimes meaningfully, sometimes not at all, and it depends on factors you don't control.

What pre-saves actually do

They put your song in the listener's release radar and library on day one. They don't directly trigger algorithmic playlists, but they correlate with the early-listen signal that does.

When they're worth the effort

If you have an engaged 500+ audience that already streams you, yes — the early bump is real. If you're starting from scratch, the energy is better spent on the song itself and one trusted peer community.

Pre-saves are a multiplier, not a starter. Get the audience first; the campaign second.
