Vocal recording tips for bedroom producers

The biggest gap between bedroom and studio vocals isn't the mic. It's the air around it. Fix the air and you've closed most of the gap.
Move away from walls
Stand in the middle of the room, not against a wall. Wall reflections muddy the take. Open space sounds expensive.
Sing slightly off-axis
Aim the mic 10–15 degrees off your mouth. Plosives soften, sibilance calms, and the proximity effect mellows out.
Record at 24-bit and leave headroom
Peaks around -12 dBFS. There's no prize for hot recording levels. There's a big prize for clean takes you can process freely.
Spend more time on the take than on the plugins. The take is the ceiling everything else lives under.
